This week's reading focuses on Costa Rica and how they heavily use pesticides on their bananas and plantains. Even though it is popular in ecotourism and attracts many tourists, they exploit the actual land by using this toxicity. The use of these chemicals are not regulated and they import large amounts at a time to use on their fruits. Not only is it poisonous to the land but it can also be toxic to the fruit itself. The wildlife such as fish are also being affected by the absorption of the pesticides.
The most valuable aspect of our city is that the cultural involvement is at large. The population is very diverse where people come from all over the world. There is also an abundance of tourism because it is a popular destination. Without the culture of the people, San Francisco would be lost because it loses its sentiment and tradition. To avoid this corruption we can promote the upkeep of local businesses and maintain old traditional stores and restaurants. Also we can avoid the gentrification of the city by enacting rental laws. To keep up the tourism, we also need to keep the local places to promote culture and tradition. By keeping the old places, we can attract people to a genuine image of the city.
Question: How can a nation pick itself back up after the corruption?
