Week 2 - Maegan Enverga

Among the various types of government systems, I prefer democratic capitalism when thinking about re-branding a nation. Many developed countries - including Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom - have successfully grown through such a structure. Countries with democratic capitalist societies may decide to focus on different aspects, whether it be more democratic or more capitalist in nature. South Korea, for example, utilized a particular blend of democracy and capitalism to reinforce freedom and unity not only between South Koreans and North Koreans, but also among South Koreans through cultural identity. Greater cohesiveness among citizens within a country tends to result in decreased division of opinions. By allowing the citizens of its community to foster national culture and togetherness, the South Korean government was able to achieve their national aesthetic of a country that acknowledges its differences, but focuses on the harmony within its citizens and government ("Cultural Identity and Cultural Policy"). This idea is similar to that of seemingly unrelated citizens in the United States collaborating to create and effectively enforce laws that will provide equal rights to those across class, race, and sex. I believe the national aesthetic of South Korea can be maximized by incorporating unity not only spiritually and socially, but also economically and politically. With a sense of togetherness through democratic capitalism, citizens within a country can come to a consensus over an issue more efficiently.

Question: What are the best features of the different types of government systems that could contribute to achieving maximum national aesthetics status and togetherness for a country?
