The Philippines
has committed to a national effort for foreign migrant labor. Philippines have been
economically revived and have thrived through the remittances sent by migrant
labor overseas. The cash value converted into pesos is much more valuable. Families
on the home front depend on remittances to participate in consumerism thus
contributing, on a mass scale, towards national economic stability. The
government recognized the benefit from oversea labor industry and eventually
invested deeply into it. Investments were poured into advertisements, creating a
new image of Filipino-ness. Similar to France, developing and creating art in
France was a national effort to recreate an image of the king as artistic and
technical. In the Baroque art era, French noble men were often painted riding a horse while the horse is galloping in the air and wearing the finest clothing and accessories. These art motifs drove psychological messages that validates the authority of the nobility as the protectors of France. In this sense, contributing to this image affirms their citizenry.
The In fact, participating in migrant labor validates Filipino nationalism. The
labor industry has sent Filipinos into many countries that the Filipino
government is able to establish labor contracts and agreements with. Although Philippines as a country are
flourishing economically through the migrant labor industry, there are social
repercussions and suspected political corruptions that prevent Philippines from
reaching its full potentials.
What are ways can Philippines rebrand its country (besides the migrant industry)?
