Under the reign of King Louis XIV and the time when Jean-Baptiste Colbert became the minister of finance, France was remade into a country renowned for its grandiose fashion, art, and other luxuries (DeJean Joan). Under the direction of King Louis XIV and Colbert, strong government planning for National Rebranding existed. According to DeJean Joan, King Louis XIV seemed to have a specific plan to recreate France and did not wish to settle for less than the perfect completion of his ideas. After King Louis XIV communicated his plans, Colbert enforced strict measures that coincided with the lifestyles of those living in different areas of France (Abbott Payson Usher). With persistence in completing a plan and proper infrastructure for the plan, France was able to remake itself. One idea involved changing the way and experience of shopping at boutiques. Rather than merely walking past objects on display in front of the window or privately shopping for both necessities and luxuries, people in France began to shop publicly (DeJean Joan). Boutiques were beautifully redesigned to lure customers inside the store and persuade them to buy even the most unnecessary object in order to appear as the most trendy or most luxurious among others. Colbert ensured the execution of an idea by creating a system of rules that, for example, prohibited "knockoffs" or creating products with materials that were deemed less than the most expensive or the highest quality (Abbott Payson Usher). By re-creating luxury, fashion, and art in such a way that causes a need for exquisite and refined taste, France had bolstered their national aesthetics status.
To achieve maximum aesthetics status, I believe France should create an environment that will continuously retain the desired aesthetic. In regards to the swans King Louis XIV imported, the country should purify the location to extend the lifespans of the swans in the same way the United States makes the effort to preserve national forests and extend the lifespans of the trees and the creatures living within the forests (DeJean Joan).

Question: Among all of the possibilities to achieve maximum national aesthetics status, how do you determine what part of the country to emphasize or renovate?
