For our start up app, our funding would come from customers who would pay for our tour guides. There would be a base fare that we are going to charge the tourists for hiring a tour guide and then it would depend on how long the tour will be. For our company’s commission, we would get 20-25% commission from the Tour Fare, but the goal is to get the money back into the community. We would also charge Service Fees that will help finance operating costs, such as service fees, safeguards that help keep tourists and tour guides safe by getting insurance and background checks.
Eventually, we would like to get the government involve in our company. Since our app’s main goal is to support the rebranding of the Philippines, the government would hopefully find it useful to where our app ideally will be used and get promoted by travel agencies throughout the Philippines allowing us for expansion. The Philippines is facing similar rebranding problems just like China is with their. It continues to face negative portrayals of the country by foreign media. International broadcast news continues to advertise the Philippines for terrorisms and outdated poverty statistics, thus deterring many would-be travelers from considering the country as a go-to destination. Thus, both the Philippines and China continue to get a negative image from the media and the rest of the worlds inhibiting them from fully changing their national branding effectively. That is why, our app would be ideal for breaking stereotypes by promoting and showing what the Philippines has to offer.
Question: How can the Philippines use soft power to change its national image effectively when Western countries continues to instill a specific negative image on the country just like China?
