Week 7 Kenrick Chiang

Seeing how many countries today are quickly advancing and growing, we can know that their government is holding up well. For a country like Botswana, a country that relies on minerals and tourism, we can see that the government is treating the people with care. However, something that we must consider that is being sacrificed is tradition. A lot of the culture has become altered due to the rise of tourism not only in Botswana, but worldwide as well. Although Botswana has come a long way in terms of poverty to now booming, we can see different changes in which they have altered their lifestyle to fit the needs of tourists and business. Similar to my country of interest, China. When looking at the culture of ancient China and the different dynasties, we see a completely different lifestyle to what we see China today. We would see China many years ago as ancient but when looking at China now, we see how they have become powerful with their economy and technology. This idea of changing is also suited for tourism. China being very advanced in technology is able to use itself as a nation brand of high economic value, leading to more countries wanting to do trade with China. Like China, Botswana is able to flourish based off of the new nation brand it has created for itself through tourism.
Question: How is it possible to develop so quickly when the nation is poor aside from assistance from other countries?
