Week 7 -- Kristina Nguyen

In many countries there is government, whether it is an absence of government or too much of government. Usually, when people think of 'government', they think of leaders who represent the people who "exist to serve the people and promote development and is not the instrument of one group or individuals for the purpose of getting hold of the wealth" (Lewin 82). In many ways, this is what we dream of what government should be. However, it is much more complicated and it is a very sad, realistic thing that most government is not necessarily "free and fair" (85). Government accomplishes many things including funding for many programs such as educational programs, sanitation, and thus is a big factor of what a country can achieve. If a country has governmental authorities who only care about their individual wealth rather than the growth of their country as a whole, then the country would not see much success in national aesthetics or maintaining a positive image among themselves.

I take for granted the programs and policies that government has put in place because I always think of our government being corrupted (and as with other governments) but what I forget is that our government has come a long way. Also, there are governmental authorities who hear the people and want to make this country for the people, and not for individuals who think they are politicians when they clearly are not.
