George Nguyen and Anna Shillabeer in "Issues in Transnational Higher Education Regulation in Vietnam" focuses on the three major types of transnational education, which are people mobility-based education, program mobility-based education, and institution mobility-based education. Now, many parents in Vietnam want their children to learn English so they can work outside of Vietnam when they grow up. The article states that international education collaborations play a major role to help Vietnam attain intellectual individuals to help compete in the global marketplace. That being said, Professor Valverde is a Vietnamese American and portrayed her experience here in America in "Transnationalizing Viet Nam." She focuses on the perspective of being in Vietnam and moving to America and the experience of the Vietnamese diasporic community through the globalization of technology, culture, and capital. Having a diasporic community in America allows the Vietnamese Americans to connect with their homeland. Globalization also played a major role, such as having virtual communication to connect with family and friends overseas. I now use Skype and WeChat, a mobile app that is free, to talk to my relatives in China. Also, because of technology we are able to see Vietnamese growing music industry. Just like in class the other day, we watched Paris By Night on YouTube. Because of this advance in technology, we Americans can see the growing industries of Vietnam and thus contribute by watching videos like Paris By Night.
My friend is running for Miss Vietnam of Northern California, and I thought this was relevant to diasporic communities and that national aesthetic of Vietnam. This pageant brings together Vietnamese Americans who have voiced opinions and experiences growing up as an Asian American. My friend advocates for students who face economic inequalities and political underrepresentation by providing mentorship.
Question: How has Vietnam been supportive of Vietnamese Americans and their advocacy to strengthen Vietnam overseas?
