Kurt Romero: Week 7 Blog

In the reading, “Issues in Transnational Higher Education Regulation in Vietnam”, the authors presents some of the difficulties of having higher education in a foreign country. Vietnam today has progressively been rising economically on a global scale. The country seeks higher education because they need to take part in the global market. If they invest their time in money in creating a well educated workforce, this will allow them to compete against other countries. However, as the authors mentioned in the reading, Vietnam have problems with regulating international education industries. The reading talks about the different types of regulatory models and the type Vietnam follows is the “moderately liberal” where the foreign institutions have to have permission from the country before operating. The Vietnamese government have too many rules which makes it difficult for the overseas providers to begin their operations in their country. This becomes a problem because it takes the education from the students and their opportunities of competing with other countries.

Question: Will Vietnam decide to lose its potential of the opportunities or will it change its rules and regulations for higher education?
