Week 4 - Alaina Cagalingan

In the article "Networks, Narratives, and New Markets: The Rise and Decline of Danish Modern Furniture," author Per Hansen details the decisions made by individuals and also collectives so that the furniture design industry could be successful. Personalization of design was key to paving their product into the international market. It was not easy, but eventually, Denmark furniture design became very successful and known globally.

In much similar way, the Filipino design in furniture can be considered aesthetically beautiful, made uniquely from materials only found in the Philippines. With more designers coming into the surface, the Philippines can acutely converge the world’s attention to not only furniture, but also arts and fashion, ultimately recognizing the talent of Filipinos in craftsmanship and intricate design. There is so much potential in the design of Filipinos. In fact, Keneth Cobonpue is one that rises in the industry. His products are known to integrate natural materials through the innovative handmade production processes.

In the video below, his success in furniture production is accepted globally. However, the success is still limited. With the help of the government in marketing and industrial production, these designs can reach more eyes around the world and recognition of Filipino talent can be spread.

Question:  What measures must be taken for the Filipino product to be successfully marketed internationally? What organizations can help make it known?
