Week 5 - William Chan

Korean popular culture has changed the popular culture globally. It was an interesting point that the author Jeongsuk Joo explaned in their article, Transnationalization of Korean Popular Culture and the Rise of Pop Nationalism in Korea, that most Korean's didnt expect their popular culture to go outside of Korea. The events of Korean popular culture spreading and influencing other countries globally creates a different way to view entertainment as well as creating a new genre or style of 'popular culture' for people to be involved in. Any person will find ways to either be a part of or neglect the popular culture that is being presented to them, but what's important is that Korea brought something new, globally, and it brought something innovative and new to popular culture itself. Joo also brought up an interesting point that relates a lot to what we talked about in class, which was globalization. The countries that were near by of Korea were worried about the globalization of Korean's popular culture. Globalization was shown through the new influences and innovative ways Korean popular culture was presented by through the media, Joo writes that the 'reexamination of globalization' must be taken accounted for because this was a sense of Korean pride to have such a impactful effect in popular culture itself.

Question: Is Korean popular culture influencing and creating ripple effects among other popular cultures in other countries?
