Connie Tsai: Week 7

In Botswana, their economic development has been due to a lack of government failure: their vast mineral resources haven’t been exploited to the extent that a corrupt government would have.

For our start-up, we would likely contact government organizations concerned with health and wellness. During the Obama administration, First Lady Michelle Obama started the Let's Move! public health campaign largely targeted towards the youth and young adults. The campaign made strong pushes for better physical health as part of general wellness, showing ways that young people could take charge of their well-being by eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise.

Our first move would be to appeal to local government before we attempt to submit proposals to the federal government. We want to be able to show a local community that our start-up will cause actual change—by doing so we can then show our impact to the federal government. Once we show that we have an impact on local communities, it would be far easier to appeal to a branch of the government like the CDC.

What failures are possible by starting with too large an organization? What kind of capabilities does a larger organization provide?
