Week 6-Michelle Wang

China remade itself through its national image became a reputable and powerful nation.  Ding emphasizes that China focused its national image at an international level and as a national power resource (295). Ding states that Beijing was able to strengthen its international broadcasting power, set up their own websites, own e-government project through its national image (298). Beijing is able to expand itself internationally and positively. Because of national image, Ding discusses that Beijing was able to expand implemented cultural initiatives with Russia and promoted tourism around the world (299). Beijing incorporates overseas jobs for the Chinese and this benefits the Chinese diaspora. However, Ding asserts that China has its flaws and lacks political credibility. (302). This affects China’s regime and is less credible.  Latham states that China lacks a positive national image because of its pollution and media would not allow the public know what was going on(31). On the other hand, China will need to focus on branding through government, industry, and the people in order to maximize national aesthetics. With this rebranding approach, citizens are addressed and leads to a more representative GDP. China invested in $42 billion for the Beijing Olympics in order to show power. Even though China was successful with the Olympics, many folks lost their homes due to the Olympic project. Makarychev and Yatsyk discuss that the Sochi Olympics planned with government corruption (1). This suggests that Russia like China values national image in order promote its wealth and does not focus on the entire country.

In order for our startup: Bhutanese tourism website campaign to thrive, funding from industries, government, and capitalists will be helpful. In order to receive government funding, Bhutanese government must find the tourism start up as beneficial. As for capitalist funding, my startup must convey capitalists should invest and this suits their needs. Funding from industries should focus if the startup is going to benefit industries and improve the tourism sector in the long run. I want to create a reliable media campaign that captures the aesthetics of Bhutan get the support of younger generation and Bhutanese locals. Early profits will be made towards the Bhutanese locals. Advertisements toward tourism media campaign will be at a reasonable cost and the profits we make will be donated to charities to work on projects towards bettering Bhutan.
